what's going on tonight?
Thankfully, it's almost Friday. And the best part of this Friday is that it marks the unveiling of a new blog feature! Soo excited! Clue: It has to do with Valentine's Day.
Anyway, tonight's lineup is short, but still exciting. Here goes:

Once, a guy told me I should write a column about the perfect come-on line -- "You know," he said, "the kind that works for just an average guy."
It sounded easy enough at first, but it didn't take me long to realize that there's no magical line that hooks girls all the time. A lot of the relationship equation is just being in the right place at the right time -- with a partner who's drunk enough/willing to take a chance on you.
Nonetheless, AskMen offers this list of what are supposedly 10 effective pickup lines. You be the judge:

Believe it or not, Mardi Gras in Columbus is pretty fun. Last year, I worked a long day and, hesitant to go out, I fell asleep around 11. But curiosity got the best of me when I woke up at 1, and I headed straight downtown -- work clothes and all. I am a party addict. Good times.

heartache leave?

A Japanese company lets its employees take time off after a breakup, this article reports. Staffers 24 and younger get one day of "heartache leave" a year, employees 25-29 get two days and anyone older than 29 gets three days.
"Not everyone needs to take maternity leave but with heartbreak, everyone needs time off, " said Miki Hiradate, chief executive, whose company of six women markets cosmetics and other goods targeted at women.
At first, I was totally opposed to this idea. I'm against wallowing -- hence my criticism of women who choose to embark on post-breakup chick flick marathons. It seems like more and more, we're getting into the mindset that after encountering any obstacle to success, it's best to sit back and get all introspective. When really, you'd probably find just as amazing a cure by simply continuing your usual day-to-day stuff.
Plus, the suggestion that you can't be professionally productive after losing the man in your life kind of puts women back, like, 100 years.
That said, most people -- men and women -- don't get much work done on the day after someone breaks their heart. Maybe heartache leave isn't that bad after all.

Eddie Murphy Tracey Edmonds Split: More Juicy Info
Eddie Murphy as a Jekyll and Hyde? That's what the reports are saying about his recent split with Tracey Edmonds after only 2 weeks of ceremonial marriage. Initial reports had been that the couple split after Edmonds refused to sign a prenuptial agreement. But recently, insiders are saying that Murphy and Edmonds broke it off after Eddie Murphy became physically intimidating and controlling toward Edmonds.
The New York Post was told by the anonymous source, "That was kind of the last straw. She was happy to sign a prenup - she has her own money. She was very accommodating. But then it was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
The source also stated that Eddie Murphy wanted to take his MOTHER on the honeymoon with he and Edmonds.
"Eddie became very controlling and insisted on bringing his mother on their honeymoon," the source stated further.
"They got into a huge fight. He started screaming at her and grabbed her. She was scared."
Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds were married on an island in French Polynesia on New Year's Day. Although the couple had announced that they would have a civil ceremony once they returned to the US, Murphy and Edmonds never followed up.
The inside source says that Edmonds was initially quite devoted to Murphy, "She was even willing to change her name to Tracey Murphy, and all the wedding invites and place cards had her labeled as such."
Edmonds' reps had nothing to say, but Murphy's reps stated, "We won't comment any further on this."
There were also reports that Murphy's mother did not get along with Edmonds and that this was a source of stress in the marriage. Eddie then allegedly sided with his mother, which led to further alienation for Edmonds. Finally, Edmonds' own children were apparently not too happy with Murphy, leading to additional conflict.
Murphy has five children with his wife, Nicole. He also had another child with Mel B, the former Spice Girl.

Single women in their 20s and early 30s are joining an international New Girl Order, hyper-achieving in both school and an increasingly female-friendly workplace, while packing leisure hours with shopping, traveling and dining with friends. Single young males, or SYMs, by contrast, often seem to hang out in a playground of drinking, hooking up, playing Halo 3 and, in many cases, underachieving. With them, adulthood looks as though it's receding.
I see the (possibly bitter female) author's point. However, as a girl who's been blessed(?) to date multiple video-game addicts, I've always thought there's something pretty endearing about watching a guy get all excited about robots/drawbridges/etc.
Maybe I'll have a different answer when I'm 45, though.

Wyclef Jean Says Lauryn Hill Should be Locked Up
Damn Wyclef, how you gonna diss Lauryn like that?
Wyclef Jean, who has no shortage of issues of his own, had this to say about Lauryn Hill:
“Half of your face has red make-up, the other half green, and your hair is barely combed. How you gonna let people see you like that? Someone is pimping Lauryn right now. A true friend would say, ‘You have to check yourself into a psychiatrist."
Wyclef had some other interesting things to say about Lauryn, even claiming that she is being pimped.
"Someone is pimping Lauryn right now. A true friend would say, 'You have to check yourself into a psychiatrist,'" Wyclef told Giant magazine.
In November, Wyclef Jean also said that Lauryn Hill is bipolar and that he had reached out to her mother for help.
While all this is happening, Lauryn Hill is on her way to having her fifth child with the son of Bob Marley, Rohan. There are rumors that the singer has had financial troubles as well. Lauryn Hill's return tour led to her being booed by crowds and speculation that she is troubled in a multitude of ways.
The harsh words by Wyclef Jean aren't likely to help. "I am not sure how productive it is for him to diss her in public," Dr. Boyce Watkins said on CBS. "It would seem to me that Wyclef Jean would handle this behind closed doors."

Forget Micronesia. And Pearl Islands. The next season of "Survivor" should be filmed in Columbus. Share your thoughts in this poll:

Yes, I did just get back from the "Survivor" auditions and yes, you are staring at a picture of a dead hamster. Ahh...reality TV. Dead hamsters aside, the "Survivor" hopeful featured above was one of my favorite contestants of the day. Laura Cecere, 22, is from Gatlinburg, Tenn. She traveled all the way to C-town with her sister, Julia, 18, and a screech owl named Petey. (The dead hamster was his lunch.) Both sisters are wildlife program coordinators for the nonprofit American Eagle Foundation, a Tennessee-based organization that educates the public about birds of prey.
This guy, meanwhile, was undoubtedly the contestant who generated the most buzz of the day. Enrique Salis, 49, is a Columbus resident who by day is a training coordinator for Cessna. He also apparently likes to dress in armor. Believe it or not, I watched as he did the splits during his audition. FYI: He got his helmet at TJ Maxx. No joke. I think it was originally a salad bowl.
I know it's a bad pic, but check out the guy in the blazer and tie. He gets the "wow" award. It's 70-year-old Wayne Corless of Auburn, Ala. He's a former Air Force officer and civil servant who told me he once ate a potentially developed duck egg, also known as balut. Read about it here.
Chris Shelnutt, 42, attracted my attention immediately. She's wearing pearls and her Easter hat. A Southern belle's armor, if you will. The Columbus woman's reason for auditioning: "I think that they need a small-town Southern woman who is much tougher than she might appear at first." You go, girl!
Body builder and fitness trainer Bena Klier, 38, of Lagrange was definitely among the the afternoon's most in-shape hopefuls. I kind of feared she'd bend me in half as she warmed up with the fitness elastics shown in the pic above. If "American Gladiators" ever comes here, she should be the first in line.
Of these five people, who do you think would stay on the island longest?
Finally, another cool auditioner I met was Miranda Jones, 24, a manager at Little Caesars on Milgen Road. The Columbus woman left her work shift to audition, motivated in part by the call-back she received when she auditioned in the past for MTV's "The Real World." That call-back didn't lead anywhere, but with luck her "Survivor" run will turn out differently.

Earlier this week, I interviewed the folks from B. Merrell's for a bar profile and they were nice enough to send a whole bunch of cocktail recipes my way. Here's the first batch, some margaritas:
EL PRESIDENTE MARGARITA
1-1/4 oz. Margaritaville tequila
3/4 oz. Cointreau
3/4 oz. Presidente brandy
1/2 oz. Rose's lime juice
2 oz. Sweet & sour mix
Lime wedge for garnish
B. MERRELL'S 'BEST' MARGARITA
1-1/4 oz. Margaritaville tequila
3/4 oz. Triple sec
2 oz. Sweet & sour mix
3/4 oz. Cranberry juice
1/2 oz. Grand Marnier (added to top of margarita after poured into glass)
Lime wedge for garnish
Directions for both margaritas: Add ingredients to mixer cup with ice. Shake well. Pour drink into salted or unsalted glass. Add garnish to rim of glass.
Make these cocktails at home, or get the direct experience by visiting B. Merrell's at 7600 Veterans Parkway in Columbus. It's open until midnight on weekends.

Lil Wayne Jailed for Drugs
Lil Wayne, the hottest rapper in America right now, was arrested for felony drug possession early Wednesday. The arrest occurred as the bus was being stopped at the California-Arizona border checkpoint.
Lil Wayne, actually named Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was arrested for alleged possession of cocaine and ecstasy, in addition to drug paraphernalia. He was being held in the Yuma County Jail on a $10,185 bond.
Other passengers on the bus with Lil Wayne included Curtis Stewart and Harold Johnson, who were both arrested for marijuana possession.
The bus was stopped by the Border Patrol agents at 11:30 pm Tuesday, after a dog smelled drugs on board. The amount of drugs on the bus included the following:
105 grams of marijuana
29 grams of cocaine
41 grams of ecstasy
Authorities also allegedly recovered a .40 caliber pistol. The gun was registered to Lil Wayne.
Lil Wayne is not the only hot rapper to be arrested recently. The rapper TI was also arrested for felony weapons possession. The rappers are not without support. Dr. Boyce Watkins argued in a recent column that the scrutiny of rappers can lead to excess incarceration at times.
"If anyone had the feds following them around the country all the time, many of us would end up in jail," says Dr. Watkins. "This does not imply that I think Lil Wayne is a good person, I am not sure of that. But the truth is that many Hollywood celebs engage in drug abuse, but they are not being followed around by the cops."

Heath Ledger Found Dead Tuesday in NYC Apartment
Heath Ledger, the Oscar-nominated actor, died in a New York City apartment Tuesday. Police say drugs could be the cause of death. He was 28.
Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment. The housekeeper who went to let him know the masseuse had arrived found him dead at 3:26 p.m.
The apartment was owned by Mary-Kate Olsen.
The Australian-born actor was nominated for an Oscar for "Brokeback Mountain," where he met his wife, actress Michelle Williams, in 2005. Ledger and Williams had lived in Brooklyn and had a daughter, Matilda, until they split up last year. Williams is best known for her role in "Dawson's Creek".
Ledger filmed his role as Joker in "The Dark Knight," a sequel to 2005's "Batman Begins." The movie is set to be released on July 18.
He's had starring roles in "A Knight's Tale" and "The Patriot," and played the suicidal son of Billy Bob Thornton in "Monster's Ball."

Britney Spears paparazzo lover Adnan Ghalib is reportedly set to tell all in an upcoming TV interview. The photographer is set to reveal intimate details about the time he spent with the troubled pop star.
According to gossip blogger Perez Hilton, Ghalib is being paid a large amount of money to sit for the interview. “He’s getting paid a lot. And his interview will be stretched out over several days,” a source tells Hilton.
Ghalib and Spears allegedly ended their brief relationship recently. The 26-year-old is said to have taken out a retraining order on Ghalib.
Meanwhile, Spears sat for her deposition in her custody battle with Kevin Federline yesterday. The singer arrived at Federline’s lawyer’s office wearing jeans and a thin blue shirt but no bra. The 26-year-old was accompanied by her longtime friend and manager Sam Lufti. Spears left the office around 1:20 that afternoon. She was expected to answer questions about her past drug and alcohol abuse and about other issues involving her ability to care for her and Federline’s two young sons.
Earlier this month, Spears appeared for a deposition nearly two hours late. She sat for only 14 minutes before leaving for her Beverly Hills home.
Kaplan has insisted that his client’s goal is not to completely cut Spears out of her son’s lives. “Kevin wants nothing more that to be able to parent his children with participation by their mother. But the best interest of the children require that they be in the most sound, safe, nurturing and consistent environment,” he had previously told People.
Federline currently has sole legal and physical custody of their sons. Spears was stripped of her visitation rights following a standoff with police on January 3. She refused to return the children to Federline and was rushed to the hospital and put on lockdown for mental evaluation.
Another hearing is set for February.

I've never been one of those girls obsessed with weddings. I've never bought a bridal magazine. I don't brainstorm names for my future children. I have absolutely no idea who, if anyone, will be in my wedding party.
My one weakness, however, is that I've always dreamed about getting engaged in a Victoria's Secret. Lame, I know. But it's my favorite store, and I really can't think of anything that would make me happier.
Anyway...that goal just entered my mind, as I found this article that claims 54 percent of men still get down on one knee while proposing. It also offers these statistics:
*44% of men ask their partner's father for permission to marry
*57% of men cry when she said yes
*65% of women say he could have put more effort and preparation into the proposal
*25% of couples wait longer than five years before taking their relationship that step further

Sure, it's great that more and more men are being romantic, but if I ever get engaged I'd get the most happiness out of knowing that the request was sincere.

What a great weekend...my BFF Lily hosted a bday party in my honor, even though I turned 26 about 10 days ago. Yes, I am an attention whore. Anyway, we had a novelty T-shirt party, which required everyone to wear a shirt with some witty phrase.
Needless to say, it was a huge success, and a theme I'd definitely do again.
My shirt, by the way, said, "Stop staring at my chest. These aren't the breasts you're looking for. Move along." A souvenir Alan brought back from Dragon*Con, it was pretty much the best ever. I have all these visions of one day attending the sci-fi convention myself and permanently entering thousands of nerds' fantasies. Hot.
I'll post pics as soon as Lily gets rid of her hangover and creates our "Fun with novelty tees" album.

Celeb News: Lily Allen loses baby
One month after her pregancy was confirmed, British singer, Lily Allen, has suffered a miscarriage. At press time, her spokesman Jon Bills issued the following statement:"She and her partner, Ed Simons [of The Chemical Brothers], will be making no further comment and we ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time"
My prayers are with the Allen and Simons family as they mourn this tragic lost.

Jennifer Aniston Bodyguard Accused of Racist Comments
Jennifer Aniston’s bodyguard is being accused to shouting racist comments at a photographer.
Rik Fedyck says the bodyguard was trying to prevent him from getting pictures of Aniston while she was on the set on her new film ‘Traveling’ in Vancouver.
Fedyck claims the staffer tried to prevent him from leaving a hotel with his girlfriend, who is Asian. When he returned alone, the man repeatedly asked him, “Where’s your chink girlfriend?”
Fedyck filed a police report but says he is only looking for an apology. “I’m just looking for respect. These people – they came from L.A., they tried to intimidate me and in doing so they called my girlfriend racist remarks. I would like an apology for the disrespect to my girl.”
“It’s something that we’re looking into, but it doesn’t appear that there’s anything that’s going to result in charges,” said a Vancouver police spokesperson.
Fedyck has had run-ins with celebrities in the past including Denise Richards and Pamela Anderson.

Britney Spears made bizarre comments while her pal Sam Lufti had a phone interview with Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. The singer was heard yelling “Get out, I’m naked, get out!” as Lufti walked toward her with the phone.
Lufti asked Spears why she was taking a shower and she yelled, “I stink, ‘cause I’m a human being. Shut the door, I’m nasty!”
Meanwhile, Lufti also shot back at rumors that Spears is pregnant. The 26-year-old sparked rumors that she is expecting after she was photographed buying pregnancy test with her new boyfriend, paparazzo Adnan Ghalib.

Pictures Released of Britney Spears Shopping for Pregnancy Tests
Britney Spears and her boyfriend Adnan Ghalib were shopping for pregnancy tests and pictures were taken. The pictures were released by her paparazzo-boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib’s agency, FinalPixx and posted on People magazine’s website.
Sam Lutfi told Access Hollywood that the two posed for the photos. He said “It’s all bull---. They’re just toying with the paparazzi.
According to PageSix.com, Britney intends to sue Dani Brubaker, the photographer who took family portraits of Britney with her sons in November and sold the pictures to OK! Magazine for “one million dollars.”
Brubaker failed to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Paparazzi have been getting in a lot of trouble lately trying to get a shot of Britney. Four were arrested on Wednesday for reckless driving while trying to chase Spears in the San Fernando Valley. Officers in Los Angeles reported seeing numerous cars following a white Mercedes-Benz, they were following too closely at an unsafe speed and making very dangerous lane changes.
Spears was seen on Sunday at a Betsey Johnson store. She went into a dressing room with Ghalib only to come out naked.
Life & Style interviewed an employee at the store who said "I was blown away. Britney's private parts were right in front of me! I grabbed a dress to cover her, and she screamed, 'Get away from me! Don't you [bleep]ing come near me!' ... Then she disappeared in the dressing room with Adnan for 45 minutes. They were making weird noises. It was disgusting."
When Britney and Adnan came out of the dressing room, "I couldn't understand a word she was saying. She was slurring and spitting and talking with a British accent. Kevin Federline Still Wants Britney Spears to See Kids
Kevin Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, says the decision to keep Britney Spears away from her children was a tough one. He says Federline’s goal is not to cut Spears out of the boy’s life but for now the situation is “painful, but appropriate.”
Spears lost visitation right with Jayden James and Sean Preston after she refused to return them to their father after a visit on January 3. The standoff resulted in Spears’ hospitalization and mental evaluation. A hearing on January 14 determined that her visitation rights would be withheld indefinitely.
“Kevin’s not indifferent to how difficult it has to be on their mother (Spears) and on the kids. It’s a sad situation. There’s no victorious feeling,” Kaplan tells People.
“But the best interest of the children require that they be in the most sound, safe, nurturing and consistent environment. That is paramount,” he adds. “[Kevin] is committed to trying to fill any void by him being there at all times for them in any way. He can’t replace their mother in their life but he is going to try to minimize the hardship.”
Another custody hearing is set for February.

Why We Fight: The Hollywood Writer's Strike
Greedy. Unfair. Selfish. If you've ever worked in corporate america, you know how dismal the cube farm can be. From write ups to layoffs, it's always the little guys that feels the heat. That is until the writer's strike. The little guys are standing up and saying, "Get your foot off my neck and pay me what's rightfully mine!" I wholeheartly support my brothers and sisters in the struggle and gladly share this video with you. If you're pissed because they've canceled your favorite show and are tired of watching ridiculous re-runs, watch this video and get a new outlook on the struggle.

American Idol on Life Support as Philadelphia Auditions Offer Little Different
American Idol is struggling to stay fresh and judging by Tuesday night’s premier it appears as if its been left out too long as the two-hour Philadelphia auditions felt painful.
In all, 29 contestants were handed a ticket to Hollywood, a small fraction of the massive turnout that provided disastrous performances in front of Simon, Paula and Randy. Gone are the days when those auditions were humorous or whimsical, now they’re just annoying.
Tuesday night opened in the same fashion that the past six American Idol seasons started, a telling little story about how a foreign born citizen has been taken by American music and wants nothing more than to achieve Idol status. Then reality sets in, a song is butchered and it’s out the door.
Whether it was a Bee Gees tune gone awry, a mind numbing rendition of Go Down Moses, a song about abstinence, or a borderline criminally insane ode to stalking Paula Abdul, there was nothing new to the show.
Of course there were some nice voices and over the coming weeks a few of those singers may develop into something more but weeding through the awful singers has become too much to watch. Would anybody actually expose themselves to what took place during the Philly auditions to find the next Clay Aiken, Taylor Hicks, Justin Guarini. Probably not.
It will be interesting to see the drop off in viewer from Tuesday to Wednesday as the auditions episode moves to Dallas. It’s unlikely anybody will be able to sit through a repeat of Tuesday.

Jamie Lynn Spears Seeks Pregnancy Advice From Beyonce Knowles Sis
Jamie Lynn Spears is reportedly seeking pregnancy advice from the little sister of Beyonce Knowles. Jamie Lynn, 16, recently announced she is pregnant by her 19-year-old boyfriend Casey Aldridge.
Solange Knowles, now 21, gave birth to a son when she was only 17. Sources say Jamie Lynn is impressed with the way Solange became a good mother and wants her to help her through her pregnancy.
“Speaking from experience, I can tell you that she’ll be an amazing mum. I have been so blessed that my son is the coolest kid ever,” says Solange. “Of course, that first year of not sleeping and just being dedicated to him had tough parts, but that’s fine. It’s been a blast for me.”

Lionel Richie Proud of Nicole Richie and Granddaughter
Lionel Richie says he is proud of his daughter Nicole Richie and her boyfriend Joel Madden for the birth of his granddaughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden. Lionel says he will have to get used to being called grand dad but is “extremely happy.”
“While it may take me a moment to adjust to being called grand dad, I am extremely happy and proud of Nicole and Joel,” he said in a statement. “Harlow Winter Kate Madden, the newest and most beautiful addition to the Richie clan, is a lucky little girl. She was surrounded by a great deal of love at that hospital as she entered the world.”
Nicole gave birth to Harlow on Friday. Joel commented that his daughter already “looks so much like her mom.”

Jennifer Aniston Vacations with David Spade
Jennifer Aniston is keeping her options open when it comes to men. The 38-year-old recently vacationed with comedian David Spade, but friends to the actress’ are quick to shoot down any rumors of a romance.
“They get along famously and had a great time in Santa Barbara,” said friends of Aniston’s.
Aniston was recently linked to ‘Sex and the City’ star Jason Lewis but then vacationed in Mexico with a mystery man.

Harry Potter Final Film to Be Split in Two Parts
Fans of Harry Potter will get an extra ‘Potter’ film as ‘Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows’ will be split into two parts. According to reports, the edited version of Deathly Hallows, the final installment of the 7-part series, will leave out too much information.
“There’s so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle where Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well,” says a source.
Potter author J.K. Rowling admitted that there was a lot of information to include into the last film. “It is simply impossible to incorporate every storyline into a film under four hours long,” she writes on her Web site.

Sources say Britney Spears had “no plans” to appear in court today for a hearing that will determine if she is able to have visitation rights with her two sons. The singer was “strongly advised” by her law team to attend the hearing but it seems as if Spears did not take their advice.

Anna Nicole Smith’s baby daughter Dannielynn suffers from an eye disorder, according to her father Larry Birkhead. He says she has a disorder that is causing one of her eyes to “turn in.”
Apparently the toddler has been battling the problems from infancy as Birkhead has revealed Anna Nicole, who died last February, took Dannielynn to the doctor about it several times when she was only a few months old.
“She has strabismus, which is a turning in one of her eyes and it’s something that we’ve been looking out for for a while,” Birkhead explains. “I’ve been taking her to the doctors.”

Anyway, I'll start the day with an insightful observation I heard from my friend last night. She told me all about the crazy world of club cheerleading, and how tons of little girls and their parents are devoting thousands of dollars to cheerleading gyms.
"You know what that means," she said.
I didn't.
"In the future, you're going to be able to get a lap dance for 12 cents," she said.
I can't wait!

Silence of the Lambs Star Anthony Hopkins to Move to Wales
After about twenty years of living in California, the star of Silence of the Lambs, Anthony Hopkins, is planning to move to Wales.
Sir Anthony Hopkins was born in Port Talbot and became a naturalized citizen in the US in 2000.
During a visit to his home town for his 70th birthday Hopkins realized just how much he missed Port Talbot.
A guest at Hopkin’s celebrations has said “Anthony was moved to tears by the whole thing, not least by the Welsh male voice choir, which had all of us going.”
“He told us that while he liked waking up to sunshine most days at his place in Malibu, he missed Wales more as he got older, and he plans to start looking for a house here.”

Mavericks Surf Contest Causing Waves for Environmentalists.
The Mavericks Surf competition begins today in Half Moon Bay. Twenty four Maverick competitors will be facing 20 to 35 foot waves starting at 8 in the morning. The Mavericks surf entrants have come from all over the world to compete in the annual contest. Some have come as far as Australia, South Africa and Brazil.
Environmentalists strongly encourage spectators to be mindful of the environment as the competition takes place near the home of a bird refuge. An estimated 35,000 to 40,000 people are expected to attend the event.
Charise McHugh, Chamber President and CEO of the Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce, warns that if the bird refuge is trampled, the Mavericks Surf Competition will be no more.
The Gulf of Farallones National Marin Sanctuary have also set restrictions for vessels and aircrafts that will be filming or viewing the contest. Boats are expected to be no less than a quarter mile from the shore and planes must go no lower than 2,000 feet above the water.
Mavericks organizers have partnered with Clif Bar & Co., an eco-friendly food company to ensure the environmentally friendly atmosphere of the competition. Ecostations can be found on the bluffs where guests can properly throw out their trash and recycle their bottles. Vendors and contest organizers will also be using renewable energy sources.

Environmentalists strongly encourage spectators to be mindful of the environment as the competition takes place near the home of a bird refuge. An estimated 35,000 to 40,000 people are expected to attend the event.
Charise McHugh, Chamber President and CEO of the Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce, warns that if the bird refuge is trampled, the Mavericks Surf Competition will be no more.
The Gulf of Farallones National Marin Sanctuary have also set restrictions for vessels and aircrafts that will be filming or viewing the contest. Boats are expected to be no less than a quarter mile from the shore and planes must go no lower than 2,000 feet above the water.
Mavericks organizers have partnered with Clif Bar & Co., an eco-friendly food company to ensure the environmentally friendly atmosphere of the competition. Ecostations can be found on the bluffs where guests can properly throw out their trash and recycle their bottles. Vendors and contest organizers will also be using renewable energy sources.

Police to Testify in Britney Spears Case
Police and paramedics who treated Britney Spears last Thursday night will testify in her custody hearing on Monday. The singer was hospitalized Thursday night after locking herself in a bathroom with her youngest son. She was transported to the hospital strapped down to a stretcher.
Her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, requested that her visitation rights be stripped until the hearing on January 14. His lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, has subpoenaed the officer and medical personnel at the scene.

Federline and Spears are currently in a custody battle which turned nasty last Thursday night after the singer refused to return the boys to their her ex-husband.
She was rushed to the hospital and put on lockdown for mental evaluation. The boys were returned to Federline who now has sole legal and physical custody of them. Spears was stripped of her visitation rights.
Jackson says Federline is doing well. “I talked to him the other night and he’s fine. He’s just happy that the boys are safe,” she told People. “That’s the biggest thing, making sure that the boys are in a good place and that they’re happy. And they’re happy.”
Jackson also had advice for Spears. “I’m just one of those people that believe you need to take care of yourself before you can take care of anybody else.
