Black Celeb News: Comedian Chris Rock Sued by Woman for Rape

It's been more than a decade since Chris Rock and a shapely blond model struck up a conversation over Sunday brunch at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. The relationship that followed was brief -- two dinner dates -- but there seems to be no end to the fallout from the liaison.

The second date led back to Rock's hotel room, which led to sex -- he has said he was separated from his wife at the time -- which led to a paternity suit, then tabloid headlines, an allegation of rape, the hiring of private investigator Anthony Pellicano, two DNA tests, a confidential settlement, testimony before a federal jury and, on Thursday, the revelation of a new civil suit.

Report: Chris Brown Still Has No Charges

Misdemeanor or felony?

As police wind down their investigation of Chris Brown in the alleged beating of Rihanna earlier this month, ultimately the injuries suffered by the victim will determine whether the singer faces a charge carrying a likely penalty of probation — or time behind bars.

So far, no charges of any sort have been filed against Brown, 19, who was arrested Feb. 8 in Los Angeles after allegedly assaulting the R&B star. He was booked by police for making criminal threats — a felony — but the case has not yet been presented to the District Attorney, who will ultimately determine which charges, if any, will be prosecuted.

ex gifts

You compliment your partner's cologne - only to learn it was a gift from his last girlfriend.

Are you mad?

That's the question raised in this advice column, where one reader asks if it's weird that her boyfriend has held onto a book from his ex-girlfriend.

Dealing with remnants of former relationships is always kind of a sticky subject. I don't think anybody is obligated to throw away something just because it's part of a relationship that didn't work out.

Then again, if you've been dating someone for a year and he's still bragging about how wonderful his ex's last Christmas gift was, there might be a problem.

Happy Thursday!

This week's nightlife column is about the lure of the male makeover. You know, that pesky female urge to overhaul your boyfriend's closet and "surprise" him with a new supply of collared shirts.

Yes, that urge can at times be controlling and shallow. But just as often, girls think they're genuinely doing something nice.

I don't think making over your boyfriend is an entirely bad thing. Of course, if you expect physical changes to compensate for emotional shortcomings, you're in trouble.

gettin' sweaty

You're breathless, covered in sweat and wearing an XL T-shirt from your 10th grade soccer team.

And somebody hits on you.

Hot or not?

Here, Divine Caroline collects a variety of perspectives on using the gym as a meet market.

I give the idea a big "no." For the most part, working out is a solo experience. Even when I'm not wearing my headphones, I'm a certain zone where it's best I'm alone with my fantasies of being a "Baywatch" body double.

And if you are brave enough to hit on me at the gym, at least be physically fit. Once, a guy consistently parked himself at the treadmill next to mine and tried to start a conversation.

I couldn't get past the fact that his workout never moved beyond like a 3.2 intensity.

Gym pickups: Totally phat, or fat chance?

Tiger Woods Makes His Return

A deafening roar returns Wednesday to the tranquil world of professional golf — and for the sport, it arrives not a moment too soon.

Tiger Woods, the world's No. 1 golfer and a megawatt global star whose participation in a tournament can mean millions more TV viewersand incalculable buzz for the sport, returns to competitive golf for the first time since his epic victory in the U.S. Open last June. (Match vs. Brendan Jones starts at 2:02 p.m. ET, Golf Channel)

When he tees off in the Accenture Match Play Championship here, just north of Tucson, Woods will end an eight-month break that followed reconstructive surgery on his left knee — the longest interruption in his 13-year career.

Woods' layoff felt even longer for the PGA Tour, the organization that operates the main professional tournaments in the USA.

Television ratings, ticket sales, media coverage and general interest in golf have declined significantly since Woods was forced to miss the second half of last season and the first 20% of 2009. The Tour remains on solid financial footing, but the worldwide recession is raising doubts about crucial sponsorship agreements for about 20 tournaments whose deals are set to expire in 2010 — including 10 from the battered automobile and financial services industries.

don't ask

Hope everyone enjoyed Mardi Gras. Alan and I had a great time at the bar crawl downtown, where we spent the majority of our time inside The Roadhouse, where the very talented Becca Rae performed with Trucker Dave.

Based on the number of occupied parking spaces, it seemed like Broadway bars were packed, but no single hot spot had an overflow crowd.

If your Mardi Gras was really successful, maybe you scored a couple phone numbers and a dinner date. And you're probably floating on the bliss of a possible new relationship.

But what if your mate of choice has been married? Or, um, recently ended a relationship with a restraining order?

Those questions bring up the difficult topic of which questions to ask a partner about his or her past. Your Tango recommends these 10 inquiries, but everybody's different.

Tell me: Which questions, if any, do you always ask about a significant other's romantic past? Which ones do you avoid at all costs?

Romance powerhouse Harlequin is celebrates its 60th anniversary by letting you download a free novel. Click here for details.

I think I'll go for the Nascar-themed one, conveniently titled "Speed Dating."

In the spirit of romance novels, I'll leave you with a passage from "One With the Darkness," one of the many erotic page-turners on my desk. It's not a Harlequin, but you get the idea.

He rolled to one side, cradling her. "What is it?" His voice was tender.

"I'll wager no one in this brothel last night had more pleasure than I just did."

He smiled. His eyes were soft. "Did you have pleasure? I only thought about me."

Sigh. So, so true.

Chris is Still Trying to Holla at Rihanna

According to the NY Daily News:

Chris called Rihanna to wish her a happy birthday,” an insider tells us. “He’s absolutely trying to get back into her good graces. He knows he’s very much in the doghouse right now, and is doing everything he can to show her how sorry he is.”
But Brown seems to think a few well-placed birthday gifts can salve his ex’s wounds. He has already sent the “Good Girl Gone Bad” singer a diamond bracelet and necklace, an insider tells us, as well as an iPod Touch. Plus, Brown’s mom, Joyce, who is said to adore Rihanna, sent over a bouquet of flowers.”

Yeah, we’re pretty sure Rihanna already own an iPod for Goddsakes, and while the jewelry and flowers were nice, we’re just not sure this erases everything Chris. Nice try, though.

Kenan Speaks on Chris Brown Too?

Kenan Thompson

Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson got into some trouble by stating that his show would be open to having Chris Brown as their special guest.

According to Kenan, "It's not up to me, but I'm sure we would if he had another hit single. We don't care about scandal. We just care about what brings us ratings!"

i'm sorry

Happy Monday! Still not speaking to your significant other after Saturday night's shenanigans?

You might find some resolution in this article, which explains why men can't apologize. In summary:

Men may know they're wrong about something but often loathe saying they're sorry. They think it's enough to explain what happened, or why they did something. But saying sorry makes them feel a bit pathetic. They see it as a weakness, not a strength.

Meh. I say man up and admit you're wrong. Although sometimes an unexpected piece of jewelry speaks volumes...

Ladies, are you past requiring a direct apology from the man in your life? And men, where does saying "I'm sorry" really rank on your hierarchy of fear?

Rihanna Opens up with MTV

Rihanna's family is opening up about the relationship between Rihanna and Chris Brown after an alleged altercation before the Grammy Awards that left Rihanna injured and Brown arrested.

One family member told People.com that Brown "flew so far under everyone's radar that we just didn't think he was that [abusive] type." The relative added that the news comes as a surprise because "he was always looking after her needs making sure she was happy."

The relative agreed with Rihanna's dad, Ronald Fenty, who thinks his superstar daughter should "move on" from the relationship. "I don't want her to go back to him," the family member said. "I don't think anyone does."

Earlier this week, Kimora Lee Simmons, who was showing her line Baby Phat during New York Fashion Week, spoke about the incident with The Associated Press, saying she saw the pair earlier in the night before news broke.

Tyler Perry Tops the Box Office - $41M

If anybody had a reason to doubt whether Tyler Perry has become one of the most bankable brands in all of movies, be skeptical no longer.

'Madea Goes to Jail' wins big at the box office

The domestic dramedy maestro's latest release, Tyler Perry's "Madea Goes to Jail," ran away with a big victory on the typically slow Academy Awards weekend, grossing a hefty $41.1 million, according to early estimates from Media by Numbers.

That opening sum is the biggest of all time for a Tyler Perry film, besting the $30 million debut of 2006's "Madea's Family Reunion." Too, it's the top bow in the history of indie studio Lionsgate, improving upon all the Tyler Perry and "Saw" flicks that came before it. The movie's per-theater average of $20,236 ranks in the top 40 for all wide openers ever.

And, no surprise, "Madea Goes to Jail" achieved all this success with a solid A CinemaScore grade from a crowd that included mostly older women. Video Watch Tyler Perry talk about his success »

Second place went to "Taken," which added another $11.4 million to its four-week tally, bringing said total to $95.2 million. Fellow strong holdover "Coraline" (No. 3) was next with $11 million.

"He's Just Not That Into You" (No. 4) declined a sharp 56 percent to bank $8.5 million on its third weekend. And Best Picture favorite "Slumdog Millionaire" rounded out the top five with $8.1 million -- a sum that brings its domestic total to $98 million.

we-mail

Geeksugar just taught me the meaning of We-Mail: a couple's joint e-mail account. Like, mattandmandy@yahoo.com.

This is something I don't get. I have a couple friends who use a We-Mail as their sole means of electronic communication, and I'm always kind of hesitant to send them personal information. I imagine the husband opening the e-mail and peering into all my boy problems.

I can't imagine which kind of communication would require We-Mail.

Maybe bills? Electronic bank statements?

It still seems kind of pointless to me.

Then again, maybe I'm just jealous because I've never been one-half of a We-Mail address.

Readers, weigh in: When, if ever, is We-Mail necessary?

Like you needed another force destroying your relationship.

Social networking sites make it easier to mess up your love life, CNN reports. Why? Of course, it's those pesky exes who send you friend requests.

An excerpt:

"It's not enough to have a good marriage. My rule is, if you are married or in a serious relationship, you are not available. Don't contact your lost love. Understand that these are old feelings and that who your lost love was years ago is not who they are today."

Here's one for you, readers:

1. You'll don't know if that's the reason why they had the altercation.
2. Rhianna had an outbreak some weeks ago and during that time Chris was all over her. Go look for the pics. So, I don't believe that there is any way that he didn't know that she had herpes.
3. Even if he eventually found out she had herpes and transmitted it to him, who is to say that she always knew she had it. Herpes is a disease that if you don't have an outbreak and haven't gotten tested you wouldn't know you have it. There are lots of people walking around with herpes passing it to others and don't even know. You can use a condom and still possibly pass it to your lover.
Know the facts about the disease before you start making comments.
4. Who is to say Chris isn't the one to give her herpes. Everyone doesn't have the outbreaks so their is no way to know who gave it to whom.
That being said he still had no right hitting her like she is his damn child.
He better get it together quick before Jay or Tay Tay roll up on his behind and wear him out.

yeah it was wrong for chris brown to hit rihanna but if its true that rihanna gave chris herpes, thats wrong. no man should put his hands on a woman period. i've been in a abusive relationship that i got out of after 11 monthes. I like chris brown and rihanna but they need to work things out and whatever started the argument needs to stop and chris should of walked away or something then hitting rihanna. chris brown is cute and doesnt deserve to have a STD from anyone he's too young for that.I say that chris brown needs help with his anger so things can work out between him and rihanna. i think that chris and rihanna is a great couple but not if chris continues to beat on rihanna for whatever it is. i also think that men who beat on women are pussys and do it cuz they are insecure with themselves and cant control nobody else but women. I like you chris brown but you need to quit your abuse on rihanna and try to work things out with rihanna then hitting on her and taking your anger out on her, try to talk things over about your feelings with rihanna it might work out between you two. i hope things work out between you and rihanna.

no offense, but...

He's not that hot. He doesn't tell her he loves her. You know she could do sooo much better.

Do you say something?

Jezebel asks that question here, asking its readers what they'd do if a friend was marrying Mr. Wrong.

I always err on the side of caution while talking to my friends about their relationships. As in, like, generally saying nothing at all.

Of course, there extreme situations -- like domestic abuse -- that require intervention. But in other less extreme cases, you have to be careful. You don't know the relationship's dynamic without being around a couple 24-7.

What's more, what you value as "normal" might be secondary to your friend.

But my biggest issue with confronting a friend about her boyfriend is that she probably won't listen. When it comes to romance, people do whatever they want. No matter how bad the relationship seems on the outside.

a sackful of fun

Almost every Southerner has a Krystal story, this article asserts.

I saw the headline and wondered, "Hmm. Should I really blog about Krystal?"

The answer, of course, was an unequivocal "yes."

This is a nightlife blog, and Krystal is just as tied to nightlife as Bud Lights and DJ remixes. In fact, many people taste their first Krystal during late-night hours, the article points out.

Been partying? There's nothing better than capping your night off with a couple Krystal Chiks. Certain things just hit your stomach a different way at 3 a.m. Note I said "different," rather than "good."

What's my Krystal story?

Fortunately, after 2.5 years in the South, I have lots of them -- ranging from birthday parties to early morning Scrambler sessions.

But my favorite by far happened this past Christmas morning. Alan and I were en route to Huntsville and I was hungry enough to eat a small child. I was resigned to eating something from a vending machine, since fast-food places usually aren't open Dec. 25.

Then, we saw IT -- a lone Krystal/gas station/liquor store. All in one.

So before even opening my presents, I was devouring four Krystals. And fries. And coffee. I think my mom got pretty offended when I called it my favorite Christmas breakfast EVER.

Still, I couldn't help it. Life doesn't get much better than conquering the open road with the man of the dreams AND the burger of your dreams.

Celebrities Give their Two Cents on Chris and Rihanna

Among those who offered their comments on the subject were Hollywood acquaintances of the pair, including actress Gabrielle Union, who was reluctant to say if she thought Chris Brown was guilty.

"Unfortunately, no one knows all the facts yet... " she said to Warner Brothers' TV extra website. The "Cadillac Records" star went on to add: "What I think is great about this unfortunate situation is it can get us talking about violence... violence is never the answer. It's good to get that dialogue started. I wish this wasn't the catalyst for that... it's never good to use violence as a means to an end."

If the rumours are true then Chris should be punished. No woman deserves to be treated like that – and I hope she knows there’s tons of support for her." According to Mel B the pair became friends in 2008 when they were working in neighbouring studios.

The singer’s most treasured possessions are going under the hammer - in the hope of raising up to £2million for the cash-strapped King of Pop.
Items such as Jacko’s iconic glittery glove - unveiled in the 1983 video for his smash hit Billie Jean - famous stage costumes, flash pieces of jewellery, his luxurious tour bus and many of his paintings, sculptures, awards and arcade games are being auctioned off. The glove - completely covered in clear Swarovski crystals - is expected to fetch up to £10,000 alone.
The gilt and iron gates to Jackson’s Neverland ranch are also up for grabs - with a price tag of between £15,000-£20,000. The sparkly black jacket he wore for his 1984 Hollywood Walk Of Fame star dedication ceremony is also going for a mere £15,000.
But the priciest item by a mile is Jackson’s custom-made 1999 Rolls Royce, which comes with an estimate of £100,000-£112,000. The extravaganza - to be held at a Beverly Hilton Hotel - starts on April 22 and will spread over four days. Organisers say it is bound to give the public a rare glimpse into the private world of the controversial singer.

Chris Brown Responding to the Heat

A week after allegedly beating and bruising his pop-star girlfriend Rihanna, Chris Brown finally released an apologetic statement Sunday via a representative that also discounted media reports claiming he'd commented about the incident on Facebook.

'Saddened' Chris Brown Seeking Counseling

Chris Brown leaves his hotel on January 31, 2009 in Dublin, Ireland. A week after reportedly beating and bruising his pop star girlfriend, Rihanna, Chris Brown finally released a statement via his spokesperson.

"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person," Brown said in the statement released Sunday evening.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong," the statement said. "While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

While Rihanna has yet to speak out about the alleged fight, her father, Ronald Fenty, said that Brown hit her in an interview with People magazine Saturday. Describing Rihanna's current condition after seeing her Thursday, Fenty said, "There is some bruising. She will be all right. I think so." "At some point, she will speak out. I hope she will stand up for women all over the world," he said.

Matchmaking is an addiction -- one usually kept by people with the worst success records.

Here, one writer describes why setting up our friends can be so much fun.

I've never tried my hand at matchmaking, but I've been a setup victim -- er, eager and willing participant -- many times. Let's just say that when you go to an all-girls high school, there's only so many ways you can find a date.

Days before my formal dances, my younger brother used to run around his all-boys high school collecting guys' digits for me. His taste wasn't actually that bad, either.

But without a doubt, Georgians are among the most eager matchmakers. I've gone out on many assignments here and had an interviewee try to set me up with a son or grandson. Once, the potential boyfriend even lived in a different state.

I generally dismiss the attempts as nosy, but good-intentioned. Even when I mention my boyfriend and the matchmaker eyes my left hand and says, "I don't see a ring."

Oh well. At least I know it's still raining men.

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day...or at least survived it.

I'll kick things off with this guy's claims that cat-owning men are intimate men. Here's an excerpt:

That is, unlike dogs, cats expect us to live with them on their terms -- or at least to make some genuine effort to see the world from their perspective. Making that effort can lead to another sort of intimacy altogether, an intimacy of the mind . . . and thus of the heart.

Which makes me wonder: Who's hotter, cat lovers or dog lovers?

Chris Brown Speaks Out on Rihanna, Arrest

For over a week it seems that everyone but Chris Brown and Rihanna had something to say about their domestic violence incident, but Chris has finally broken his silence. Chris released a statement earlier today, check out what he had to say below.

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writing under my name are frauds.”

I am definitely glad to see that he is seeking help, and I kind of feel a little sorry for him.
