 Natalie Portman’s Parents Keep Her Grounded

‘Black Swan‘ actress Natalie Portman shares that her parents are supportive of her acting, but are hoping she’ll go to grad school.

“My parents are the opposite of stage parents in that they’re still not so sure about the whole Hollywood thing. I got a degree in psychology at Harvard and my dad is still saying, ‘This being an actress thing is cute, but don’t you think it’s time to go to grad school?’ They are amazing parents who listen to me and respect what I say, and the reason I’m not totally crazy is I know they’re at home, happy, loving me and proud of me no matter how badly I fail. If you have that in your life, you feel free to do anything.”

The newly engaged star also shared that she has another fella in her life that loves her unconditionally (and it’s not fiance Benjamin Millepied:

“I have an amazing dog called Whiz, a black and brown Yorkie – lots of shades going on in that coat. He turned four last Halloween. He has this amazing intuition of knowing how people feel and when he’s in a room full of people he’ll sit next to the one person who’s thinking, ‘I don’t really like dogs,’ then he’ll roll over and show them his belly. He’s like a little moving teddy bear. He’s the sweetest thing.”

I’m sure her parents are excited about becoming grandparents! And if it weren’t for that “Hollywood thing” Natalie Portman is doing – she never would’ve met their future son-in-law!

Were you as shocked as I was yesterday when Natalie Portman’s rep confirmed that the ‘Black Swan’ star is pregnant and engaged? I mean, OMG! Now Natalie herself has released a statement about the exciting news.

“I have always kept my private life private,” the actress said, “But I will say that I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience.”

I guess there was really no way Natalie could keep this private: she’s probably going to be at all the awards shows because of her performance in ‘Black Swan’ and she also has the movie ‘No Strings Attached,’ ‘Your Highness,’ and ‘Thor‘ to promote in 2011.

Natalie’s already had an amazing year in 2010 with all the accolades she’s getting for ‘Black Swan’; it looks like 2011 is shaping up to be even more memorable!

‘Black Swan‘ star Natalie Portman is the new celebrity spokesperson for the Miss Cherie Dior fragrance, and she admits she didn’t make the decision to join the ranks of celebrity spokespeople lightly.

“To be honest, I had an aversion to selling things,” she explains to Women’s Wear Daily, “and then I realized both that there could be a company that I would be proud to represent, and also that they would really support the things I believe in.”

“It definitely was a war inside my head for a long time and, finally, I was like, we can actually do something very positive with this, especially given the kind of company Dior is, which is truly elegant. It’s been exactly along the lines of what I had hoped for.”

Dior went to considerable lengths to get Natalie’s approval: they even made vegan shoes for her!

“One of the things that’s been so nice is that Dior made all of the shoes for me with no animals and no leather or anything, because I don’t wear any leather. They remade all my shoes so I can wear Dior shoes without taking lives.”

I wonder if Dior will produce a vegan line for the general public to buy. Would you be interested? This is the time for Natalie to do something like this: ‘Black Swan‘ is doing so well in limited release, it looks like it’s going to be quite a hit, leading to a higher profile for her.

Poor Natalie Portman – the gorgeous actress had to lose 20 pounds for her role as a prima ballerina in the hugely anticipated movie Black Swan, so once filming ended she indulged in carbs again!
The actress told PEOPLE magazine at the films premiere that;

“It was just pasta and bread and pizza all the time,”

 I would totally be the same way! I couldn’t imagine having to restrict my diet so much for a role! Portman also said that she had to change her way of eating to lose the weight for the role;

“It wasn’t really giving up [food],”
“It was just smaller portions … It was more quantity than a particular thing
“Working five to eight hours a day for a year … it’s what real dancers live through, It was an amazing experience, but definitely a difficult one.”

I guess that’s just suffering for your craft though, right?!

 Natalie Portman And Mila Kunis Had Grueling Roles In Black Swan

Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis are everywhere right now. I have a feeling Black Swan is going to blow up. Yesterday they talked to MTV at the premiere in NYC and told them about their grueling roles in the movie. Natalie says,

“Mila and I had had ‘sweatpants nights’ watching ‘Top Chef,’ and suddenly we were on set together in tutus, emaciated and tired.”

Mila added,

“It was months and months and I was always hungry.”

After such a grueling diet for the film, the two actresses jumped at their first chance to have a full meal!

“The second they were like, ‘You can eat now,’ I ate everything in two minutes,” Kunis said, adding that her first post-”Black Swan” meal took place at an airport food court. “Panda Express at JFK. I’m a classy broad.”

Natalie says that working on the film with Mila brought the two of them closer.

“It’s interesting always to see someone working who you only know socially. It’s great to see someone do so beautifully in a work context after you know they’re just a fun, cool person.”

Natalie Portman Talks About Extreme Weight Loss For ‘Black Swan’

Natalie Portman’s ‘Black Swan‘ co-star, Mila Kunis, talked about her weight loss for the movie. Now Natalie is talking about her 20 pound weight loss. Twenty pounds!

A year before shooting, Natalie did an exercise regimen of ballet, cross-training, and swimming.

“I think it was just the physicality of it all that was the most extreme,” she told UsMagazine.com… “I mean, I had never gotten that much training – to be doing five-to-eight hours a day of [it] was really a challenge.”

Natalie said she’d be willing to undergo this type of training again for another part, and she’s even going to incorporate some of what she did in her daily routine.

“Not ballet,” she told Us, “but I’ll always dance!”

This is the third and final post from last night’s Gotham Film Awards which was held at Cipriani Wall Street. We’ve already seen Winona Ryder and Leighton Meester and now we have Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Amanda Peet and Anne Hathaway.

Mila’s dress is AMAZING – as usual! And Natalie looks like she really liked what she was wearing. Which style do you prefer?


The NY Post caught up with Anne Hathaway and asked her about hosting the Oscars with James Franco. The actress said she was very excited.

I don’t really have a great reason … I like a challenge. It seems like an incredibly cool and exhilarating thing to do,” she told PopWrap

Adding, “I’m convinced it will be a [nerve-wracking experience].”

She’s a natural! Can’t wait to see James and Anne in action.
